Furniture for the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville
Mark completed the restoration of several pieces of furniture for the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville. This furniture is on display and used at the County Board office in Brockville, Ontario.
This furniture was built in 1850 at the Guggesberg Cabinet & Chair Factory which was founded in Preston, Ontario.
In 1891 the company was sold to Preston Furniture and the company name was changed as such. The lamps were built in Brockville in 1850 and Mark was able to find the tag when he dismantled them for restoration. All the furniture was
dismantled, restored and made functional for use by the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville.
United County Board Members found it difficult to find a company that could take on such a large task as there were several transport trucks of furniture. Mark took particular pride in completing this project as it was local and challenging as it tested most restoration skills.
Special thanks to Jim Quantral, of the Archives office in Cambridge, Ontario for his help with the investigation of the origin and history of the furniture.
